‘Orc’s Drift’ is probably best summed up in the words of my partner-in-crime and co-writer, Dean Wayland – ‘We got paid for this?’

And so we did. But it was peanuts – well, a very small peanut, in fact – so the karmic balance of the universe wasn’t too greatly disturbed. And the editor who bought it is almost better now.

I blame the Grunts! orcs entirely. Having written the book, the characters showed no signs of upping and leaving our heads – and, when Dean inflicted the world’s shaggiest joke on me, and I felt we had to share, the orcs just looked at each other and said We’ll do that. And shortly thereafter, they were away with the fairies…
